World Champions? Team India Humiliates England In 1st ODI

England got thrashed in the 1st ODI against Team India at the Kia Oval as Rohit Sharma’s men produced a perfect game to go 1-0 up in the three match series. After losing the T20I series recently, Jos Buttler’s men were disappointing yet again. India won the toss and elected to bowl first in a cloudy day in Surrey. It was a Jasprit Bumrah master-class at the Oval and English batters got no answer against his bowling.

Jason Roy, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone went back to the pavilion without scoring as Bumrah picked up 6 sculps, his best figures in ODI’s. England posted 110, which India chased down with 10 wickets in hand courtesy of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 114 runs opening stand.

Let’s look at the major talking points from the game that Team India totally dominated–

Unplayable Bumrah rattles England batting

It was a nearly perfect day for pace bowling at the Oval and Jasprit Bumrah took full advantage of it against England on their soil. English top order batters had no answer against him. Under an overcast sky and in a pitch with some grass on it, Bumrah was literally unplayable. The star pacer became the first Indian fast bowler to claim 6 wickets in England. Along with it, he overcomes Ashish Nehrah’s 6 wicket spell against England in Durban in the ICC World Cup in 2003 to be in the second spot in best ODI bowling figures with 6/19.

“Today, the white ball swung and offered seam movement. I wanted to exploit it. So I had a conversation with Mohammed Shami and we both decided to bowl Test match lengths,” said Bumrah in a press conference for Team India after the game.

“There is always communication when we both play. Even today when the wicket was offering swing and seam. I had a conversation with him that what we could do to bring our team to the best position. When you complement each other as a pair, it feels good,” he added.

Shami creates record

It was a very good exhibition of fast bowling from India yesterday. Alongside Bumrah, Shami was brilliant as well. The Bengal pacer picked up 3 to become the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 wickets in the ODIs breaking Ajit Agarkar’s record. It took Shami 80 matches to reach that landmark. The best of the lot in those three wickets was the one of Ben Stokes who went without troubling the scorers.

Rohit Sharma back in form for Team India

The Indian skipper was out of form recently in the IPL and in the T20 series against England. But Hitman announced himself in the first ODI with an excellent 76 not out in just 58 balls. His innings included 5 sixes and 6 fours, where he completely dominated English bowling attack. Shikhar Dhawan complimented him well after coming back into the side with unbeaten 34 to help India win the game by 10 wickets.
