IPL newbie Gujarat Titans win a thriller against Punjab Kings to keep hold of their unbeaten run in this year’s competition. Gujarat is the only team in this IPL who are yet to be beaten. Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to have field first. Punjab lost Mayank Agarwal very early once again as well as debutant Jonny Bairstow. Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone put in a solid partnership in the middle, but Rashid Khan picked up both of them. Jiten Sharma and later on Rahul Chahar played good cameos to post a challenging total of 189 on the board.
Coming on to chase, Gujarat lost the wicket of Matthew Wade, but on the other hand, Subhuman Gill was continuing his great form and was smashing the ball all over the Brabourne Stadium. Debutant Sai Sudharsan supported Gill brilliantly with a healthy knock of 35. Hardik Pandya was not at his fluent best but was nearly taking his side home before getting run out after making a quickfire 27 off 18. The stage was set for Rahul Tewatia once again to finish the game off and he did it in style. When his team needed 12 off the last two deliveries, Tewatia smashed two back to back sixes to win it. Let’s look at the talking points from the game –
Punjab got a real concern with Mayank Agarwal’s form
PBKS’s decision to make Mayank Agarwal captain of the side, after KL Rahul’s departure is yet to be proved but he is making the management more worried with his batting display. Agarwal decided to open the batting with Shikhar Dhawan even after having Jonny Bairstow back in the squad. Agarwal got dismissed on another single-digit score trying to pull Hardik Pandya’s short pitch delivery.
PBKS got a real diamond in Liam Livingstone
The powerful English all-rounder is looking in prime form at the moment. He smashed 64 off just 27 balls with a strike rate of 237. His innings included seven boundaries and four massive sixes. Eventually, he got caught on the boundary line when he tried to smack another six.
Shubman put in a show again
Gujarat has got a real gem in Shubman Gill. After making 80 odd in the last game, the former KKR opener was in line to score his first IPL ton, but unfortunately fell four runs short and got out for 96 off 59 balls.
Tewatia – the headline maker
With 12 needed off the last two deliveries in the game, Rahul Tewatia did his magic once again with the bat and smashed two massive sixes off Odean Smith to win it for Gujarat Titans. What a star he is.
