IPL 2022 Weekend Roundup; Biggest Winners And Losers This Game-Week

It’s been another dramatic weekend in the Indian Premier League. On Saturday we saw Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians faced another defeat. It is the first time in history that CSK started IPL with four consecutive defeats, whereas Mumbai was in a similar situation in 2014. Most successful teams in the tournament are yet to win a game.

On Sunday, League leaders Kolkata Knight Riders were beaten convincingly by Delhi Capitals and slipped down to the second spot after Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants to go to the top with a healthy net run rate.

Let’s look at the major talking points from all four games of IPL 2022 over the weekend –

Sunrisers rise to the occasion to sink CSK

SRH Youngster Abhishek Sharma’s brilliant 75 was the highlight of the game as Kane Williamson’s team got their first win this season. Both the teams were winless and were desperate to get the first two points on the board. Hyderabad bowled brilliantly to contain CSK to 154/7 and chased down the total with 8 wickets in hand. Rahul Tripathy also contributed with a terrific unbeaten knock of 39 off just 15 balls.

Mumbai’s batting woes continue

Faf du Plessis won the toss and sent MI to bat. Rohit Sharma’s men are struggling big time to get their batting together and it was another flop show against RCB. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave MI a steady start with a 50 runs opening stand in 6 overs. After their dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav put in a great show once again with a terrific 68 not out off just 37 balls to help post 151 on the board. But it was not enough for MI to contain the RCB batting lineup that had Glenn Maxwell back. Youngster Anuj Rawat played brilliantly for his 66 with Virat Kohli also contributed with a good knock of 48. RCB won the game with 7 wickets.

A former knight came in to haunt KKR

After Dinesh Karthik hit the winning runs to win it for RCB against KKR, it was another former knight who dismantled the KKR batting lineup this time. We are talking about Kuldeep Yadav. KKR won the toss in the afternoon game against Delhi Capitals and on a relatively very good batting pitch, Shreyas Iyer decided to have a bowl first. DC skipper said at the toss that he would have bowled first as well but they won’t mind batting first on that pitch at the Brabourne. Rightly so, DC openers Prithwi Shaw and David Warner gave their team a flying start from the first over.

Both the openers scored half-centuries as KKR bowling looked very average. DC posted a mammoth score of 215. In reply, KKR lost both their openers very early. Skipper Shreyas Iyer showed some great form with a well made 54 off 33 balls but Kuldeep Yadav picked up his wicket. The left-arm chinaman bowler did not stop there and went on to pick three more and finished with a figure of 4/35 in his four overs. That’s called revenge against a franchise who did not give him a game in the whole of last IPL.

Royals back to winning ways

Rajasthan Royals got another very good win under their belt and this time against inform Lucknow Super Giants. Sanju Samson’s team lost their 4 top order batsmen within the 10th over. Then it was Shemron Hetmayer’s show all the way as the hard-hitting West Indian continued his great form with another 36 ball 59 not out. Ravichandran Ashwin played a healthy knock of 28 before going retired out. RR posted 165/6 on the board and brilliance from Trent Boult (2/30) and Yuvendra Chahal (4/41) helped the Royals to defend the total.
