RCB Vs CSK; Defending Champions Nearly Out Of IPL 2022 Playoff Race?

RCB Vs CSK Review- Faf Du Plessis’s managed to guide Royal Challengers Bangalore back to winning ways after three consecutive defeats on the bounce. It was a game against his former side and former captain MS Dhoni for the South African. CSK won the toss and decided to bowl first. Both the teams desperately needed two points from this game. RCB got off to a great start scoring 62 from 7 overs before Faf Du Plessis got dismissed. A little collapse followed as Kohli and Maxwell also went back to the pavilion within the first half of their innings.

Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik did fight back to take RCB’s total to a competitive 173. In reply, CSK lost wickets at regular intervals even after getting a solid start by the openers. Harshal Patel’s brilliant death bowling ensured a 13 run victory for RCB. CSK skipper MS Dhoni blames the batsmanship and shot selection of his side after their defeat.

“We did well to restrict them to 170-odd runs. I felt in the later half it could be better and we had to get off to a good start, everything was upto the mark and what let us down was the batsmanship.” – Dhoni said.

The CSK skipper further added, “When you are chasing you know what is required and at times you have to curb your instinct and see what really the situation is demanding rather than playing your shots. The shot selection could have been better towards the end. We had a good start and had wickets in hand, the surface kept getting better but we lost wickets at regular intervals.”

Let’s look at the talking points from the RCB Vs CSK game

Kohli still not finding his best touch

It has been a season to forget for the former RCB captain. Just one half century in 11 games now for him which came in the last game in a losing cause. Against CSK he did play a composed innings of 30 runs from 33 balls but it is not the Kohli innings we are habituated to.

Mahipal Lomror’s showed his worth

Kohli and Faf Du Plessis gave RCB a flying start. But after that it was bit of a collapse from them as they lost three stars of their batting order in quick succession. From 62/0 to 79/3, RCB were on the backfoot before Lomror arrived at the crease. The former Rajasthan Royals batter played the most valuable knock in this game as he smashed 42 off 27 balls.

Maheesh Teekshana’s three-fer in the RCB Vs CSK match

The Sri Lankan mystery spinner has been a find for CSK this season. Theekshana got enough help from the pitch in this game. After going wicketless in his first three overs, he came back strong in his last one picking up three wickets in that over dismissing well set Mahipal Lomror. Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed were his victims too. Theeksana finished his spell with 3/27.

Maxwell did the job with the ball

It was not a good day with the bat for the big Australian star as he went quickly to the pavilion being run out for just 3. However, with his right arm off-spin, he provided RCB with two crucial wickets at a crucial time of the game dismissing Uthappa and Rayudu. He ended with excellent figures of 2/22 off his four overs.
