This is not less than a miracle that India have got three outstanding captains one after the other. Firstly, it was everyone’s favourite Sourav Ganguly, who made his team more courageous and always stood by each player. Then came the mastermind MS Dhoni, who helped India achieved glory in every format. Now, another aggressive captain Virat Kohli, who is leading so well with his ‘Go for Victory’ attitude.
Today, let us take you to one of the most interesting topics where we will discuss the best victories of the above-mentioned captains in England. Here they are:
Sourav Ganguly
Widely regarded as one of the finest captains in cricketing history, Sourav Ganguly has captained India in 49 Test matches. Out of which, India have won 21 matches. 11 of them were overseas victories which is still better than many greats.
His finest overseas victory came against England when India travelled the UK in 2002. In the 3rd Test at Leeds, India posted a mountainous total of 628/8d with the help of centuries from Sachin, Dravid and Sourav himself. England couldn’t manage to score that much and lost by innings and 46 runs.
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni was going through a rough patch in Test cricket before this famous victory came across in 2014 in England. Though India lost the series, this match was an all-time classic for every Indian fan.
India managed to score 295 & 342 in both of their innings while England scored 319 in their first innings. With the target of 319 in the 2nd innings, nobody expected the magical spell from Ishant Sharma. The boy from Delhi took 7 wickets for just 74 runs and gave India this phenomenal victory under pressure.
Virat Kohli
Good Indian captain or captain of a good Indian team… Well, this debate won’t end soon. The ongoing series between India and England shows why India has been a top side in Test cricket.
Victory at Lord’s is always special and Virat Kohli luckily tasted the victory at the Mecca of Cricket. KL Rahul’s scintillating century at Lord’s gave India a magnificent start. The total of 364 in the 1st innings was good enough to take advantage against the hosts. England scored 391 in their 1st innings, thanks to Joe Root for his brilliant 180.
A similar kind of batting in the 2nd innings gave India an advantage over England as a target of 271 was not easy in the fourth innings. What made this win more special was that Kohli’s men bowled out English players under 60 overs on the final day. Siraj’s four-fer was the moment to cherish. Ishant and Bumrah too had their moments.
