The first four weeks of the IPL 2020 have witnessed a lot of thrilling encounters played across all three venues. Despite that the tournament is being held outside India, it has become a huge hit in the country. Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have shown an incredible performance in the first half of the league, while MS Dhoni’s Super Kings are almost out of the tournament. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting moments of the first half of the IPL 2020:
Gabbar’s back to back centuries
Shikhar Dhawan is undoubtedly Delhi Capitals’ biggest trump card when it comes to batting. The southpaw recently scored back to back tons against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab respectively. He became the first batsman in the history of IPL to achieve this feat.
Though his century against KXIP didn’t come in the winning cause, the innings against CSK was a pure masterclass as DC defeated Yellow Brigade in a remarkable thriller.
When Pooran became a Superman
Even the doctors were not sure if Nicholas Pooran could play cricket in future after he met with an accident in 2015. The West Indian didn’t lose hope and came back with a bang on the field. Recently, in the high-voltage encounter against RR, Nicholas Pooran saved a phenomenal six at the boundary that became a sensation overnight.
Many have already declared his efforts as the best-ever. Even the God of Cricket (Sachin Tendulkar) was in awe when he witnessed the Pooran’s performance. Should credit be given to his fielding coach Jonty Rhodes?
Five sixes in an over
Yes, we remember Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over but this was something really special as it came while chasing a big target. Even though Rahul Tewatia was struggling with the bat that day, his performance took everyone by surprise. The left-hander smashed five sixes off Sheldon Cottrell and snatched a much-needed victory from Kings XI Punjab. He bagged the Man of the Match title for his unbelievable effort.
Post-victory Bihu dance
Rajasthan Royals have got some outstanding talent. One of them is Assamese Riyan Parag. The 18-year old showcased his spectacular performance with the willow against SRH and finished the game in style with a massive six. Surprisingly, he celebrated the victory by showing an impressive Bihu dance performance that took everyone by surprise.
Rajasthan Royals are currently at the 6th spot with 4 wins in their kitty. The team needs to win in all the remaining matches in order to qualify for the playoffs.
Fastest ball in IPL history
South African pacer Anrich Nortje bowled a deadly over against RR on October 14. The right-arm fast bowler, who has been consistently bowling quick this season, clocked a stunning 156.22 kmph at Dubai International Stadium. Jos Buttler, on the other hand, scooped it well for a boundary.
Interestingly, the South African-born pacer clean bowled Buttler on the very next delivery, that too at the speed of 155.1 kmph. He now eyes Shoaib Akhtar’s record of 161.3 kmph after delivering the fastest-ever IPL ball.
