590 Players Registered For IPL Mega-Auction; Event To Be Huge?

A total of 590 players have registered for the mega auction of this season’s Indian Premier League. The IPL mega-auction is going to be held on the 12th and 13th of February. The countdown has already begun as there are many exciting names on the auction list. The fans have already started speculating about their potential new players in the upcoming auction. Two teams have been added to this season’s Indian Premier League and henceforth IPL will consist of 10 teams.

These two new franchises have already named their three draft picks. Lucknow SuperGiants have brought in the star Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul as their captain. Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi are two other draft picks of Lucknow SuperGiants. On the other hand, the franchise of Ahmedabad has picked Hardik Pandya as their captain for the upcoming season. They have also picked Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill from the draft.

The List Of Players Registered For The IPL Mega-Auction

The other franchises have been given the opportunity to retain a maximum of four players from their previous squad. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have retained four, with the IPL mega-auction to determine the fate of the rest.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have only retained Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sunrisers Hyderabad has Kane Williamson as their captain and two promising youngsters Abdul Samad and Umran Malik will also be an integral part of their squad. Punjab Kings have retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh from their previous squad.

Kolkata Knight Riders have retained two of their experienced campaigners Andre Russell and Sunil Narine along with Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy. Mumbai Indians have kept their captain Rohit Sharma and the likes of Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah and Surya Kumar Yadav have also been retained by this franchise. Delhi Capitals have gone with Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje from their previous squad. Chennai Super Kings have retained Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad along with their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, David Warner, Quinton de Cock, Mohammed Shami, Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult and Pat Cummins have the base price of 2 Crores and these are the top players who will draw the attention of all the franchises. The teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore need a captain. So, they will certainly look for the options like Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner. Ishan Kishan’s age will certainly go in his favour as the franchises will be looking forward to long term assets.

Manish Pandey’s name will also be considered as a captaincy option along with Dinesh Karthik. Seven players from associate Nations have also registered in the mega auction. It will be interesting to see if any franchise goes for them in the mega auction. West Bengal’s Sports minister Manoj Tiwary has also registered his name in the mega auction. Sreesanth has also put his name on the list. The mega auction is certainly going to set a new record in the history of the Indian Premier League and it might well be the last auction for this league. The teams will be trying to form a solid base and these two days will decide the fate of the franchises for the upcoming few seasons.
