Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, two of the biggest names in the history of Indian cricket, are also the two most successful captains in the IPL. These legends have gained a huge amount of experience and success over the years. Both are great skippers, exceptional hitters and sensational readers of the game. So, it is very hard to say who is a bigger name amongst the two. Fans believe in statistics, so we are.
IPL started in 2008 and Mumbai Indians have been the most successful franchise to date with five titles to their name. Chennai Super Kings were banned for a couple of years in between, still, they managed to win the trophy thrice. MI have won all their five titles under the captaincy of Hitman and CSK won their three titles under captain cool.
When Super Kings were out from the tournament in the 2016 and 2017 edition, Dhoni’s Rising Pune Supergiant reached the final once but lost in a low-scoring thriller against Mumbai. Clearly, Rohit has an upper hand when it comes to winning IPL titles.
Moving on to the individual stats, the legend from Ranchi has a slightly higher strike rate and average than the Mumbaikar while the latter has more runs in the IPL than Mahi.
When it comes to head-to-head, 32 matches have been played between Mumbai and Chennai and the Men in Blue have won 19 while the yellow army managed to beat MI on 13 occasions. Mumbai Indians are ahead of Chennai Super Kings in what we call the ‘El-Classico’ of the IPL. Rohit has completely changed the phase of the whole tournament when he became the skipper of Mumbai Indians. The team started doing well and players became a regular part of the side.
According to the statistics, Mumbai Indians are undoubtedly the best IPL franchise and the name who made it possible is none other than Rohit Sharma. So, this is going to be disheartening for all the Dhoni fans as Ro-Hitman Sharma is a bigger name in IPL than MS Dhoni. Do you agree with this?
