Talking Points: PBKS Vs MI; Yet Another Loss For The Team From Mumbai

The PBKS Vs MI summary- Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians lost their 5th consecutive game this season and this time against Punjab Kings. Rohit Sharma’s men are yet to win a game in this year’s Indian Premier League as they sit bottom of the table. MI won the toss and elected to field first which was a questionable decision for many as they played one extra bowler in place of a batter.

MI’s batting has not clicked as they would have wanted, so in that perspective, it could be easier for the batters to post a total instead of bearing the scoreboard pressure coming on to chase a big total. Punjab went off to a flying start and the opening stand of 97 in 10th over set the tone for them. PBKS posted 198/5 and defended it brilliantly to win the match by 12 runs. Skipper Mayank Agarwal was happy with the way his team played.

“We want to play aggressive, hard cricket, and with that, we need to show good intent. I think this time around we were a lot smarter with the bat as well. we showed great intent but we were a lot smarter so that we could keep wickets in hand and use the death as well. I think we are playing good cricket overall and if we get 5-10% better every game, I think we’ll go on to do special things.”

Let’s look at the talking points of the PBKS Vs MI game –

Mayank Agarwal returns to form

PBKS skipper was going through a rough patch as a batter in this tournament but finally, he played an important inning of 52 runs in 32 balls. PBKS team management decided to put trust in Agarwal to open the batting ahead of Jonny Bairstow and the call seems to be paying off.

Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant 70 in PBKS Vs MI

The Veteran Indian opener is showing why PBKS signed him in place of KL Rahul, and doing justice to the faith. Dhawan was on song again and his 50-ball 70 run knock included 5 boundaries and 3 classy sixes.

Rohit Sharma’s patchy form continues

The most successful IPL captain is not having a good time so far in the tournament neither with the bat nor as captain. The hitman started the innings brightly and was going strong till gave his wicket away with a casual shot against Kagiso Rabada when he was batting on 28. He is yet to reach a half-century in this campaign which is a big concern for MI.

Dewald Brevis starting to show his potential

The highly-rated South African youngster is certainly living up to the expectations. It was another great little innings of 49 of 25 balls from him under pressure. The highest scorer in U19 ICC World Cup 2022 just missed out on his maiden IPL fifty by a run. MI was in the game when Baby AB was at the crease and was striking at a strike rate of around 200 plus.
