Talking Points: MI Vs CSK; More Than A Decade Of IPL Cricket And Jaydev Unadkat Still Can’t Bowl To MS Dhoni

MI Vs CSK Review- It was an MS Dhoni classic at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai last night, where the Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets to register their second win this season. Two of the most successful franchise in the IPL came against each other for the first time this season. Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and decided to field first. Both the sides made a few changes to their line-up.

MI went on the back-foot right from the start as they lose both their openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for a duck. Tilak Varma showed some class in the middle to help MI post a competitive total of 155 on the board. In reply, CSK also lost their last season’s Orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad for a golden duck. Uthappa and Rayudu built a stable partnership to set the stage perfectly for a classic MS Dhoni finish in the last over. The legendary wicket-keeper batsman finished the game in style when 4 was required from the last ball.

Jadeja was all praise for Dhoni in his post-match comments. “Actually we were very tense, the way the game was going, but at some stage, we knew that the great finisher of the game was there and if he played to the last ball, he can definitely finish the match. “He (Dhoni) showed the world that he’s still here and he can finish the game.”

Jadeja acknowledges the fact that they should be working on their fielding after missing a rare catch in the game.

“I do not take fielding for granted and still work on it. We need to do some work on our fielding and take catches because we can’t keep dropping catches in every game,” Jadeja said about his side’s below-par fielding show in the match.

Let’s look at the talking points from the MI Vs CSK game-

Mukesh Choudhary showed why CSK trusted his talent

The 25-year-old won his first Man of the Match award after a brilliant show with the new ball. The left-arm pacer got the better of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the first over of the game and dismissed both for a duck. He also picked up the dangerous Dewald Brevis in the 3rd over to put CSK right on top of the game very early. After having a few disappointing outings, Mukesh is growing game by game in Deepak Chahar’s absence and finished this game with a remarkable figure of 3/19.

Tilak Varma’s classy fifty in MI Vs CSK

It was another youngster on the other hand who showed his class in the game i.e. Tilak Varma. The 19-year-old showed great temperament and patience when wickets were tumbling at the other hand for MI. His 51 off 43 balls included two sixes and 3 boundaries and these innings gave MI something to fight about.

MS Dhoni finishes off MI in style

MI looked favourite when MSD came into bat because CSK’s asking rate at that time was over 12. With no recognised batsman left, MSD decided to take the game deep with Dwaine Pretorius. The South African all-rounder played a great hand of 14-ball 22 but in the last over they needed 17. Dhoni smashed a six and a boundary in back to back deliveries and took a crucial double run to be on strike in the last ball. The ‘captain cool’ did what he does best and smashed a four off the last ball of Jaydev Unadkat to take CSK home. Dhoni’s unbeaten knock of 28 off 13 balls took all of us back in the memories of his prime days.
