The much-awaited campaign has just begun with Team India losing two back to back ODIs at Sydney with the final ODI to be played at Canberra. Steve Smith has been on a roll with his scintillating batting in both the games. The right-hander has scored consecutive centuries, both in just 62 deliveries. David Warner and Aaron Finch too had a phenomenal beginning to the tour. Bowler Sachin showed his class in 1991-92
With Windies being the third team in the series, India’s first match was a nail-biter against them. After scoring just 126 with the bat, the Caribbean side were favourites till the end until Sachin Tendulkar bowled a magical last over to give his country a memorable victory.
Then medium-pacer Sachin, took a wicket on the last ball of the match with Mohd. Azharuddin taking a splendid catch at slips. This was India’s finest memory of that tour.
Gorgeous Ganguly’s century against PAK in 1999
This was not at all a happy tour for India but the only victory they earned was a super special as it came against the arch rivals Pakistan. The under-pressure captain Sachin Tendulkar was going through a bad phase but his opening partner Ganguly gave him some moments to cheer.
The southpaw scored a magnificent 141 at the iconic Adelaide Oval against the top-quality bowling line-up. India won that game comfortably by 48 runs with this victory became the only one on this tour.
Very Very Special ton against Aussies in 2003-04
Test specialist VVS Laxman showed why he should have been included in the 2003 World Cup squad. He was frustrated and gave all the answers with his bat with a century against Australia at Brisbane being the best amongst all the three.
Laxman’s 103* helped India posted 303 on the board. They held their nerves till the end and tasted success finally by beating the hosts by 19 runs.
‘Ton’dulkar in 2008 CB Series
Winning an ODI series was a dream for the Indian side that eventually came true with the help of the ‘God of Cricket.’ The little master scored a remarkable century at Sydney, his first ODI ton in Australia, and helped his team take 1-0 lead in the CB series.
Dhoni requested him to sit out in the 2nd game due to injury but the Master Blaster had other plans. He took the field, scored 91 and finished things off in style, giving India their first ODI title against Australia.
Rise of the King in 2012
India needed a bonus point to stay in the tournament and guess what, Virat Kohli took the responsibility and hammered every Sri Lankan bowler around the park at Hobart. He flicked Lasith Malinga like a child and gave the signal of his arrival to the world cricket.
India managed to achieve the target of 321 in 37 overs with Kohli’s phenomenal 133 off just 86 balls and the rest is history.
Boom Boom Bumrah in 2016
India already lost the series 4-0 but the final ODI saw one of the modern greats in the form of Jasprit Bumrah. He bowled yorkers, picked up couple of wickets and showed the cricketing fraternity his arrival. With Manish Pandey hitting a century in that game, India wrapped up the ODI series with a win.
Dhoni had a last laugh in 2019
It was emotional for almost everyone for how long the Indian legend is going to be with them. With the World Cup right around the corner, Dhoni showed his early days’ glimpse by taking games deep and won it for the team. He did that twice and helped India win the ODI series. That was the final time fans witnessed MS Dhoni at his very best and their star won the Man of the Series award.
