The much-awaited Test series between India and Australia is set to begin on December 17 in Adelaide. What makes the first match more interesting is that it is going to be a day-night Test match with the pink ball. It will be the only Test in which Virat Kohli will play in the four-match series as he will be travelling home to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

India won the 2018/19 Test series in Australia 2-1 and will be looking to retain the trophy this time. With Steve Smith back into the squad, the hosts won’t follow the same approach as they did the last time. Smith is world number one in Test cricket and his presence in the series could be enough to keep India on the backfoot.
On the other hand, David Warner is set to miss the first Test due to injury but will be back in the Boxing Day Test starting from December 26. The Adelaide wicket has always been a batting-friendly so one can expect some big totals throughout the game. Speedsters would have to focus more with the new ball as there isn’t likely to be much movement off the pitch. Spinners could come into play on Day four and five for sure.
The best part about this iconic Test is that the weather would be pleasant on all five days with no rain expected.
Prediction
Keeping the home conditions in mind, Australia will be having an edge over visitors. Also, they have more experience of playing with the pink ball. However, Kohli’s brigade could also turn things around if they bat well throughout. They didn’t have the best of the practice games in the past so Aussies have more chances of winning this match.
