IPL newbies Gujarat Titans finally got defeated for the very first time as Kane Williamson inspired SRH to another win this season. Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten half-century helps GT post 162 after their top order failed. SRH skipper Kane Williamson played a captain’s knock to guide SRH to their second win on the trot. The 31-year-old Kiwi star praised his boys after their big 8 wicket win.
“It was, I thought all in all a good game of cricket. I thought we were good with the ball and so were they. It was hard to get a rhythm and so we just tried to build partnerships but good to see signs of improvement. The guys are nice and clear on their roles,” Williamson said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Let’s look at the talking points from the Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match-
Another flop show for Matthew Wade
Australia’s T20 world cup hero Matthew Wade is still finding his feet in the IPL as he failed once again in this game. He has now got only 56 runs from his four innings which is way below the expectations. After Jason Roy pulled himself out from the IPL this year, GT decided to make Wade their opening partner with Shubman Gill. With Afgan youngster Rahmanullah Gurbaz waiting on the bench it might be the right time to launch him.
Pandya plays an anchor role in batting in Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
After the top 3 failed for GT in this match, skipper Hardik Pandya came in at his usual number 4 to play an unlikely slowish innings to build the innings. Pandya scored an unbeaten 50, which was his slowest half-century in the IPL overall, to help GT get to a respectable score.
Consecutive 50+ opening stand for Williamson and Abhishek Sharma
Coming on to chase 163, SRH started very slowly. The opening dups Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma scored only 11 from the first four overs in the powerplay. After that, it was a pure classy show from both. It was another 50 plus run opening stand from them to set the stage for a comfortable win. Abhishek Sharma scored 42 and Williamson hit a classy 46 ball 57.
Only a wicket against SRH for Rashid Khan
The Afgan spinner played five years for the Sunrisers and this is the first time he played against them. He picked up only a wicket in the game and looked much off-colour. SRH, on the other hand, are playing with just one spinner in Rashid’s absence i.e Washington Sundar and he did brilliantly to concede only 14 from his 3 overs.
Nicholas Pooran finished the game in style
Sunrisers’payed a mammoth 10.75 cr for the West Indian wicketkeeper-batsman in the auction. Finally, Pooran is getting into his rhythm in this IPL. In this game, he played a knock of 18-ball 34 and finished the game with a six.
