Even in this tough scenario of the pandemic, there is a sigh of relief for every sports fan in the form of IPL. During the time of auctions, we eagerly wait for our favourite cricketers, for which franchise they will play; however, we never think about the coaches that belong to a respective squad. Here we are with the list of all the coaches of the IPL teams for this season:
Mumbai Indians
Five-time champion Mumbai Indians are lucky to have Mahela Jayawardene as their head coach. The Lankan legend joined the team in 2017 and didn’t look back since then. Speedster Shane Bond is the bowling coach of the side while Robin Singh is the batting coach of Mumbai Indians. Former Auckland cricketer James Pamment is the fielding coach of the team. He replaced legendary Jonty Rhodes for this role in 2017.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Virat Kohli-led RCB are having some good time this season with their incredible show so far. Not many would know but former Australian all-rounder Simon Katich is the head coach of the side. Surprisingly, Sridharan Sriram is the batting and spin bowling coach of the franchise while Adam Griffith is the fast-bowling coach of the squad. Do you know who is the fielding coach of the team? It’s Malolan Rangarajan! He is from Chennai and played for Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand in the past. Let us clarify that Mike Hesson is the Director of Cricket Operations (RCB).
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Successful international coach Trevor Bayliss is the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. They do not have any specific batting and bowling coach but Indian legend VVS Laxman is their batting mentor while spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan is their bowling mentor. Besides, Biju George is the fielding coach of the team.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Brendon McCullum is the head coach of the KKR. They do not have any specific batting coach but one can assume McCullum would be helping out the KKR batters. Another kiwi player Kyle Mills is the bowling coach of the side and former English player James Foster is the fielding coach of the knights.
Delhi Capitals
Australian great Ricky Ponting is the head coach of the Delhi Capitals. He has the support of Mohammad Kaif as an assistant coach. The side does not have any special batting coach as well as a bowling coach this time. In fact, they do have any particular fielding coach as well but having Kaif in their dugout would solve all the problems related to fielding.
Rajasthan Royals
The Men in Pink do not have any special head coach this season but they have roped in Kumar Sangakkara as their Director of Cricket Operations. Their batting coach is Amol Muzumdar who has rich domestic cricket experience. Sairaj Bahutle is with the Royals as a bowling coach, also they have Ish Sodhi as a spin bowling consultant.
Punjab Kings
Indian legend Anil Kumble is the head coach of the Punjab Kings while Wasim Jaffer is the batting coach of the side. Former Australian cricketer Damien Wright is the bowling coach of the team. Besides this, everyone’s favourite Jonty Rhodes is the fielding coach of Punjab Kings. We have already seen some spectacular stuff from the team under his belt.
Chennai Super Kings
Stephen Fleming has the longest stint as a head coach unlike any other coach for a particular franchise. He retired in 2008 and became head coach for the CSK in 2009. Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey is the batting coach of the side while Lakshmipathy Balaji is serving as their bowling coach. You must not know this but Rajiv Kumar is the fielding coach of Chennai Super Kings and at one point of time, MS Dhoni has played under Rajiv’s captaincy in domestic cricket.
