It’s just the beginning of the IPL 2020 and we have already witnessed a couple of remarkable encounters. This league is the perfect platform for the young guns to showcase their talent. But somewhere in between, we all are missing the legends who used to be a part of IPL a few years ago. Today, we have decided to come up with the best retired IPL XI of all time. So, here they are:
Top Order (Sachin Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist and Gautam Gambhir)
Sachin Tendulkar has always been one of the finest batsmen regardless of any format of the game. The right-hander has scored 2334 runs in the IPL in 78 matches at an average almost 35. He has 13 fifties to his name which makes him the automatic choice in the retired XI.
Having a player like Gilchrist in the squad is always an advantage because of his unmatchable wicketkeeping skills as well as power-hitting. The southpaw has scored 2069 runs in the IPL with a remarkable strike rate of 138. He has 2 tons to his name.
One of the most successful captains in the IPL, stylish Gautam Gambhir is at number three in this XI. It won’t be surprised for many as he is the skipper of this line-up. Having led KKR to 2 IPL trophies, Gambhir is someone who has the best cricketing brain. Gauti has over 4000 runs in the IPL including 36 half-centuries.
Middle Order (Jacques Kallis, Brendon McCullum, Mike Hussey)
South African legend Jacques Kallis has been one of the best all-rounders of all time. He played IPL till 2014 and scored a phenomenal 2427 runs including 17 fifties. The Protea cricketer played a major role in KKR’s victories in 2012 and 2014.
McCullum is another top cricketer who finds a place in this XI. His marvellous 158 in the first-ever IPL game is rated as the best-ever innings till date. He has 2880 runs in his IPL career, that includes 2 top-notch centuries and 13 splendid half-centuries.
Mike Hussey, also known as Mr. Cricket is a perfect definition of dependability. He has played for two of the best franchises in the IPL, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The left-hander has almost 2000 runs to his credit in just 59 matches.
Spinners (Anil Kumble, Pragyan Ojha)
From a successful Test and ODI bowler to an IPL legend, Anil Kumble has almost everything to his bucket when it comes to cricket. Who can forget his brilliant captaincy in IPL 2009 when he took his team to the finals? He showed his experience in every game that he played that season.
Now, many would be surprised to see the name of Ojha in this team. Let us clear that! He makes the cut because of his decent economy rate in the tournament. He even has 89 wickets to his name at a good average. So, this is the perfect left-arm, right-arm spin attack.
Fast Bowlers (Laxmipathy Balaji, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh)
L. Balaji is the only right-arm fast bowler in this XI. His records are pretty decent when it comes to IPL. The pacer has taken 76 wickets in his IPL career, also helped KKR win the 2014 edition with his magical arms.
102 wickets in the IPL is something you can’t see with every bowler. Zaheer Khan has played for different franchises over the years but his best performance came with Mumbai Indians. Zak has a decent average of 27.3 in this cash-rich league.
RP Singh left everyone stunned with his magical performance in 2007 World T20. He came as a top contender in the IPL auctions and even bagged good amount. The left-arm pacer won the Purple Cap in the 2009 edition while playing for Deccan Chargers. Due to his stunning show, DC won that year’s IPL as well.
