Team India recorded another limited over series win under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. In the 5 match T20I series against West Indies, India have an unassailable 3-1 lead after another crunch performance last night. This series was a big chance for some youngsters in the Indian side with plenty of big stars taking rest. Likes of Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi all got their deserved call up in the national side in this series. It is the brand of cricket which India played in this tour has impressed the most.
Rohit Sharma praised his young side after the series win saying it was a rich brand of cricket from the men in blues and they deserved to win. He stated post the 3-1 series win, “Quite pleasing how we played and won the game. Conditions were not easy but we got to a good score. Lot of thought went in on how we batted. It was pleasing to see. Pitch was quite slow which our bowlers used to their advantage. I thought 190 was a good score. With the kind of batting that WI have, no score is good. The team played some good cricket to get the win today. Batters were really smart. Bowlers bowled in pairs to get wickets. Put the brakes on their scoring.”
Let’s look at the top 3 performers for Team India in this series –
Arshdeep Singh
The 23 year old left arm pacer was knocking the door of Indian team since last two years or so with some special match winning performances in his back, especially in the IPL. He was a key figure of his IPL franchise Punjab Kings for some time, and he delivered the expectations with the national side as well. Arshdeep is the highest wicket taker for India in this series with a total of 7 wickets from 4 games with a best figure of 3/12 in 3.1 overs coming in the last game. Surely he is a hot prospect for Indian bowling in the coming years.
Suryakumar Yadav
Sky continued his terrific form which he showed in England in this tour as well and scored a total of 135 runs from four matches with a healthy strike rate. Sky had a new role to play and was asked to open the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma, a job he did perfectly. With T20 World Cup coming, Sky’s form is a big positive for the Indian side.
Rishabh Pant
The flamboyant wicket keeper batsman hadn’t had a great limited over series with the bat for India in some time now. Pant answered his critics well with some handy quickfire knocks against West Indies in this T20I series. Pant is the second highest run getter for India with 117 runs.
