Match Review: India Vs Sri Lanka 1st Test; As Hosts Thrash Crumbling Visitors

India has thrashed Sri Lanka in the first Test match at Mohali. The Test will always be remembered as the 100th Test match of the former Indian captain Virat Kohli and his teammates have made him proud with a brilliant win against Sri Lanka.

Here are five talking points of the Test match between India and Sri Lanka-

1. Ravindra Jadeja’s Heroics As An All-Rounder For Team India:

Ravindra Jadeja has scored 175 runs in the first innings and he has been largely untroubled throughout his whole innings. Many cricket fans would have loved to see a double ton of Ravindra Jadeja at Mohali. However, the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Rohit Sharma has made it clear that the Ravindra Jadeja has been selfless to take the decision of the declaration at that point in time. Ravindra Jadeja has taken 9 wickets in this test match with the bowl and the pitch has been tailor-made for his bowling style. So, the test match has finished within the span of three days.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin Touches Another Milestone:

Ravichandran Ashwin has gone past the milestone of Kapil Dev’s 434 test wickets. Now, only Anil Kumble is ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin as the most number of Test wickets taken by any Indian bowler. It is almost getting impossible for foreign teams to win a Test against India in their home condition and the credit should go to the spinner duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. These two bowlers have been phenomenal for India in the last few years and Indian fans would love to cherish the beauty of this duo as long as possible.

3. Improvement Of Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant has been groomed well under the guidance of Wriddhiman Saha and now he has taken the wicketkeeper spot for Team India for the next few years. There have been several improvements in his wicket-keeping skills. The ball has been kept low on a few occasions and still, he has been able to grab them perfectly. His innings of 96 runs have been entertaining. He has taken on the Sri Lankan spinners and their confidence has gone down after the charge taken by Rishabh Pant. Day by day, Pant is improving himself and he is going to be an asset for the Indian Cricket Team in all formats within the next few years.

4. The Battle For The Number 3 Spot Within Team India:

The captain has confirmed that Hanuma Vihari is currently preferred for the number 3 spot in the Indian test team. Vihari has started his innings quite well and scored 58 runs. However, he has failed to capitalise on it and score a big ton against a fairly weak Sri Lankan bowling attack. Shubman Gill is in the squad and he is waiting for his opportunities to come. Cheteshwar Pujara is also trying to regain his form while playing in the domestic circle. So, it will be interesting to see who takes the number 3 spot in the near future.

5. What’s Ahead On The Road For Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka will have a lot of work to do to compete against an elite test playing side like India. None of their players has shown any fight in the whole match. Embuldeniya has bowled well on the first day to get two important wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli. However, he has failed to impress on the second day. Nissanka and Dickwella have scored a half-century each. However, it has not been enough for Sri Lanka at any point in time. Lahiru Kumara is currently having a hamstring niggle. So, Chameera might come in his place in the second test match.
