IPL 2023 Best Domestic Performers!! In the previous article, we spoke about the brilliant performances of the overseas players who took our breath away with their spellbinding batting and bowling displays, we now take a look at our very own domestic stars, who were not to be left behind with their own unique and fearless brand of cricket.
They were not overawed by the spotlight and proceeded to grab their opportunity with both hands, thus cementing their name among the stars. And have caught the attention of one and all.
We take a look at those brilliant young performers from IPL 2023 who can do bigger things!!
Tilak Varma
Before injury put a break on his season, Tilak Varma was one of the stars of the Mumbai Indians campaign. With a calm head over his shoulders and a maturity that belies his tender years, Tilak was the perfect blend of caution and aggression at number 4 in that power-packed MI batting lineup. 274 runs in 9 innings at a Strike rate of close to 160 is a brilliant return for the youngster, and it is hoped that he could continue with this fine run in the eliminator, where he has been passed fit to play.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
While last year it was the Jos Buttler show, this year it was his partner Jaiswal who took center stage. The Southpaw had a season for the ages, which was also his best IPL season in terms of runs scored. He was aggressive in the powerplay, and then in the later stages of the tournament he even started to accelerate in the middle overs as well, a facet he was earlier not delivering in. 625 runs in the season at a strike rate of 163 with a marvelous 100 and 6 50s, Jaiswal lit up the IPL with his brilliance.
IPL 2023: Top 10 Indian Flops!!
Rinku Singh
The dasher from Aligarh was one of the lone shining lights in what was a bleak season for the Knight riders. He built a name for himself as KKR’s man Friday while chasing, and he was on an absolutely elite level when it comes to chases. His numbers speak for themselves- 305 runs in chases at a mind-numbing average of 152 at a strike rate of 175. This lad has just propelled himself to superstardom this season, and surely an India cap is not far away for him.
Tushar Deshpande
The Vidharba pacer was thrust into the limelight and had a very wretched start to the league, but with each and every passing game, the burly 27-year-old showed exceptional levels of improvement, and his performances bear witness to his improvement. 21 wickets in a CSK bowling attack that was raw and untested. Even though his economy was on the higher side in the early stages, it has now come down to a respectable 9.6. Another mandatory CSK success story.
Sai Sudarshan
The young leftie was thrust into the action in the early stages of the IPL, and he repaid that trust and backing from the side with some really strong performances. Walking in at number 3, Sudarshan was a mix of calm and poise as his level head made sure that there was a platform set for the rest of the power hitters to come in and do their thing. 223 runs in 6 innings is a really good return considering the limited opportunities provided to him.
IPL 2023: Top 5 Overseas Flops!!
Jitesh Sharma
An able keeper. A fearless batter who gets straight to business the moment he sets foot on the crease, and with a devastating ability to tonk sixes at will, Jitesh has been an ace destroyer for the Punjab Kings towards the end of their innings. In the least amount of balls available to him, his impact has been immeasurable and has been the difference between a 170 and a 190. 309 runs at a strike rate of 156 from a position as low as number 7 is a phenomenal return. A potential India cap perhaps?
Akash Madhwal
Akash Madhwal was thrust into the deep end after injury to Archer ruled him out of the tournament. Not much was known about him, but after the last two games, we all know who he is now. The lad from Uttarakhand has gone and taken the IPL by storm. He first picked up 4 crucial wickets and considerably slowed down the SRH innings when it looked like they would reach 220 at a canter, and then he followed it up in what was a jaw dropping performance at the eliminator.
5 wickets for just 5 runs and he single-handedly broke the back of the much vaunted LSG batting line-up. He has more than made up for Bumrah and Archer’s absence and now he is hoping to have a much greater impact in the qualifier vs GT
