IPL 2023 has seen some sparkling performances this season. 200 has become the new 180, yet a score below 140 was made to look like a monumental task thanks to the elite level of the bowlers and their performances. While the Indian players have performed in spades, the foreign imports of various franchises are not far behind as well.
However, for every Du Plessis and Conway, there are players who have barely made a noticeable contribution to the cause of their team, leading to their team falling far behind or out of contention altogether.
Let us take a look at the overseas players who’ve underperformed the most in the IPL 2023 tournament-
1. Harry Brook
The Englishman along with SKY was the most talked about cricket sensation in the recent months, and by forking out a whopping 13.25 cr. for his services, SRH believed they finally got their man to stabilize their seemingly volatile batting line-up. But 13 games and a bottom place later, the Brook experiment has blown up in their faces. One brilliant 100 vs KKR aside, Brook has found the low, slow and gripping Indian pitches a little too challenging for his liking. Aside from the 100, Brook has only scored 90 more runs in the rest of his innings. His 190 runs in 10 innings is not the kind of return you expect for the outlay invested in him.
2. Aiden Markram
After leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the maiden SA20 title, Markram was entrusted with the task of leading the Mother team to a first IPL title since 2016, but things have not worked as Markram or the Sunrisers envisioned it to be. While his captaincy has led a lot to be desired as a whole, his batting numbers considerably went down from last year. 235 runs with only 1 50 score at a strike rate of 126 are modest returns from one of the sides leading batsmen as well as their skipper.

3. Sam Curran
The most expensive player in IPL history, 6 months ago, Sam Curran was the player of the tournament in England’s victorious run to the T20 World Cup. Cut to today and he has been one of the duds of the season with both bat as well as the ball. A single score of 50+ with the bat and only 9 wickets with the ball at am economy rate of over 10, safe to say that he’s having a shocker of a tournament.
4. Jofra Archer
Another English disappointment, this IPL is not turning out to be a good one for the English players, and Jofra Archer is another one who makes this list. His arrival was meant to be a shot in the arm for a Mumbai bowling line-up that was raw and inexperienced. But his arrival instead complicated things. His niggling injury problems meant he only played 5 games, taking just 2 wickets at an economy of 9.50 before being ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The sight of Jaiswal absolutely ripping him a new one is one that will not go away for quite a while
5. Ben Stokes
Jee, this list should have been called English players who have had disappointing IPL seasons. Ben Stokes was bought by CSK with the view of being that all-rounder who would make a difference with both the bat and ball while simultaneously bringing his leadership qualities to the fore. But his tournament with the CSK has been nothing short of a nightmare. 3 games. 15 runs.
No wickets and the one over he bowled, he was carted for 18 runs. He then got injured and has been digging heels in the dugout, and is set to leave the CSK camp after their game vs the Capitals to focus on England’s upcoming test assignments. So much for 16.5 crores eh?
