Delhi Capitals got 2 crucial points against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium last night after a relatively comfortable 4 wickets win. Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to field first. KKR on the other hand made three changes to their lineup in hope of changing the results. DC bowlers put pressure right from the start as KKR lost early wickets again.
Former Knight, Kuldeep Yadav was the star with the ball against his old side and picked up 4 crucial wickets including Andre Russell. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana did show some fights to help post a total of 146. KKR also got early breakthroughs and picked up wickets at regular intervals. But defending a total under 150 was always a tough ask for this KKR bowling. David Warner and Rovman Powell played good knocks to take DC over the line. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer looked disappointed after 5th successive defeat in this year’s competition and said they started very slowly with the bat.
“We started off really slowly and lost a couple of early wickets. It was holding up a bit (the wicket), but we did not get a good score on the board. No real excuses, we have to go back and assess where things are going wrong. A lot of chopping and changing is happening, it’s been difficult to set up the right combination, with all injuries not helping as well. We need to stick together, play some fearless cricket, not be conservative with the bat.” – Iyer said.
Let’s look at the talking points of DC vs KKR –
Kuldeep did it again to haunt his former side
The left-arm Chinaman bowler had some really tough times with KKR in the last couple of years. Last season, he did not get a game for the knights. This year he has already shown his former team what he is capable of in their first clash a few days back. Kuldeep picked up four wickets yet again in this game to dominate the KKR top order. Kuldeep produced a magical performance yet again with the figures of 4/14 in four overs. It’s now four matches that DC has won in this IPL, Kuldeep won the Man of the Match awards in all of them.
Nitish Rana showed some form in DC vs KKR
Rana was bought back by KKR for 8 CR in this year’s auction. That shows how much trust this franchise got in the left-hander. However, It has not been the best of tournaments with the bat for him so far. He scored his second fifty in this IPL against Delhi when his team needed it. Rana’s 34-ball 57 runs helped KKR to post a respective total of 146 on the board.
Umesh Yadav’s 3 wicket haul in DC vs KKR
The KKR pacer did not have good times with the ball in the last four games. Defending a low total of 147, KKR needed Umesh to pick up wickets, and he did it. Umesh picked up Prithwi Shaw on the very first ball. After that, a well set David Warner and Rishabh Pant gave their wickets to him. It’s now 14 wickets in total for Umesh in this season for KKR.
Rovman Powell won it for DC
The hard-hitting Jamaican didn’t have the best start to his life at Delhi Capitals. In the last game, he showed some glimpse of his talent. In this match, Rovman stayed till the end and scored an unbeaten knock of 33 in just 16 balls. Powell finished off the game by hitting a six, something the Delhi fans will be cherished.
